One of the world’s most colorful weevils, Eupholus schoenherrii lives in New Guinea and surrounding islands. After pupating, the weevil takes on its famous, charismatic form with a long rostrum (snout). These specialized mouthparts allow weevils to bore into vegetation. This weevil feeds on wild yam, which is poisonous to most other animals. Its bright colors warn would-be predators that this weevil makes an unpleasant meal.
